Our film for February is Another Round (cert 12a)
THE FILM
Another Round is a vibrant and uproarious Danish film directed by Thomas Vinterberg which won the Oscar for Best International Feature Film in 2021. Blending comedy with satire and societal commentary, it is based on the idea that the natural blood alcohol level in humans is 0.5 per cent too low and should be rectified where possible. Four teachers take this thesis to heart and Another Round shows the highs and lows of their rather radical approach to life. Star of the show is former Bond villain Mads Mikkelsen who treads a fine line between joy and tragedy as the story unfolds. (NB: Another Round is subtitled.)
Mark Kermode in the Observer gave it five stars: “It’s a brilliantly ambiguous affair, woozy but precise, profound yet playful, confronting matters of life and death with equal vigour, while ultimately raising a toast to the redemptive power of cinema.”
