Ocean Generation is an ocean-focused NGO and UK Charity which is on a mission to empower an inclusive global movement to tackle Ocean threats through science and storytelling.

Our Wavemakers programme is for 16-25 year-olds and aims to empower them to make a difference to our Ocean using their own skills and values. By positively engaging young people, we aim to foster a sense of agency, leading to tangible behavioural changes and a desire for collective action.

We have teamed up with South Asians for Sustainability to develop a workshop (first of its kind!), curated and tailored for South Asian diasporic communities. As an attendee, you’ll be diving into your own values and natural skill set to see where you can be more Ocean intelligent in your everyday lives, your future careers and beyond.

South Asians for Sustainability exists to bridge the diversity gap in the environment and sustainability professional sector and showcase climate conscious choices in a culturally relevant way.

The workshop will cover the following:

• Unlock your “superpower” and get tips to apply it and drive positive impact.
• Learn about the interconnectedness of our ocean, the human threats it faces and how we are all part of the solution.
• Deep dive into Pollution as one of the 5 Ocean Threats and be introduced to our framework that allows you to focus your effort and energy in an Ocean Intelligent way.
• Unpack how you can turn a great idea into a reality or how to make positive change.
• Discover how you can build sustainability into your career choices.

We’ll also encourage exploration of how your cultural heritage forms a part of your values and “superpower” and invite anyone thinking about pursuing purposeful careers to join us. Everyone from all faiths, backgrounds, abilities, and ethnicities are welcome to join the session.

This workshop will comprise of 3 modules delivered throughout the day - you can join us for 1, 2 or all 3 of them!

11:30am-12:30pm - Unlocking Your Superpower

1:30pm-2:15pm - Understanding Ocean Threats

2:15pm-3pm - How to turn your Idea into Action

On completion, you’ll receive a certificate of attendance and the opportunity to schedule in an additional conversation with Vibhati - Founder of South Asians for Sustainability, if you’d like any career advice or further insights.

This workshop is also in support of South Asian Heritage Month, which runs annually 18th July - 17th August to celebrate, commemorate and educate South Asian history and culture.
