Oceans Of Hope Challenge: Sail The Solent YACHT
Multiple dates and times
Port Solent Marina, PO6 4TJ
Description
Come and join us for a unique program of free sailing days in the Solent to empower people with multiple sclerosis.
We have planned a series of day sailing events from Port Solent Marina in Hampshire between 30 June to 14 July 2024. We welcome anybody living with MS to come and sail with us in an MS friendly environment with other people living with MS, supported by an experienced crew who either have MS or understand the condition.
Please note this event is for sailing on a yacht for which you will need to be able to walk up and down 4 steps (with handrails). If this is not accessible for you, please book on the wheelchair accessible events on 5th, 6th and 7th July onboard the fully accessible cameraman 'Spirit of Scott Bader'.
Day sails are an incredible way for people with MS to experience the restorative and regenerative powers of sailing. They are for many of our magnificent sailors, their first taste of sailing as part of a crew. Over 80% of our new participants continue to attend day sail events or progress their journeys with us to other sailing Challenges and qualifications.
We do not require any payment from you, but do require £25 deposit to ensure your place, this can then be returned to you after the event. Please use the 'reserve your place 'button to pay your refundable deposit.
If you wish to bring a carer, please book a free carer ticket.
Please bring a packed lunch, cold drink and waterproof jacket. Hot drinks will be provided
Make Yours a Fundraising Challenge!
As well as guaranteeing sailors a fabulous time, making lifelong friends, and developing skills out on the beautiful Solent water, we're also using this two-week challenge to raise vital funds for our small but MIGHTY charity!
We want 'Sail the Solent' participants to also challenge themselves (and their nearest and dearest) to raise £100 each for Oceans of Hope.
This represents £1 per nautical mile, which will help support our charity's ongoing programme of sailing events.
We've set a fundraising target of £10,000 for the duration of the challenge, which we know you're going to help us achieve! It will enable us to deliver a two-week accessible day sailing event every year going forward.
Sailors will get access to our JustGiving page to help collect online donations, an Oceans of Hope t-shirt, and a fundraising pack to include logos and graphics to help spread the word on social media.
