ABOUT THE SHOW
Daddy Long Legs is based on the 1912 novel of the same name by Jean Webster. This intimate musical brings to life a story that was actually quite radical for its time. Webster’s novel, told through a series of letters, follows an orphaned young woman, named Jerusha Abbott, who is given the chance at an education by a mysterious benefactor (Jervis Pendleton). It quickly became a commercial success, especially among young women who identified with its spirited and independent heroine. At a time when women’s voices were often constrained, the story championed education, self-expression, and autonomy, offering readers a witty, hopeful portrait of a woman shaping her own future.
The musical adaptation preserves the novel’s charm and epistolary heart while deepening the emotional connection through music and performance. It follows the evolving relationship between Jerusha and her unseen patron, Jervis, blending humor, longing, and discovery into a tender, character-driven journey. A timeless “Cinderella” romance, Daddy Long Legs celebrates the transformative power of opportunity, imagination, and finding one’s voice.
This charming two-person musical stars New Jersey's most beloved tenor and soprano, Dakota & Elle.
