All Shall Be Well 從今以後: a Ray Yeung Mini-Series part 2 + Q&A

Angie and Pat are a couple living in Hong Kong who have been together for over four decades. After Pat's unexpected death, Angie finds herself at the mercy of her extended family as she struggles to retain both her dignity and the home that they shared for over thirty years.

Join us for two screenings of queer Hong Kong director Ray Yeung's most recent films, Suk Suk and All Shall Be Well - both centred on the lives of older queer people, Suk Suk on older gay men, All Shall Be Well on older lesbians. For the first time this ESEA Heritage Month, we're screening both films across two nights, with the director himself and producers Chowee Leow and Stan Guingon joining us in person for a Q&A on the second night.

These two films are a thread connecting us to our queer elders. Those who navigated hostile landscapes, preserved chosen family, and reimagined what queer life could look like long before it was safe to do so. Screening them together is a chance for ESEA queer folks and allies to recognise the resilience of those who came before us, and to carry their stories forward as part of our own evolving thread.

About:

Ray Yeung is a Columbia University MFA graduate. He has written and directed four features and eight short films. Ray’s third feature SUK SUK (TWILIGHT’S KISS) World Premiered at the Busan International Film Festival 2019 and had its European Premiere in Panorama at the Berlin International Film Festival 2020. The film subsequently screened in over 50 film festivals worldwide.

Bik Yu Lian (He/They) Is the event and volunteer coordinator, as well as income inclusion officer for the project Together We Rise at ESEACC. Born to parents from Canton, China, in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa (Auckland, NZ), the land of the long white cloud, he moved to the UK in September 2023 to pursue his studies in Philosophy of Science. Prior to moving to London, he had begun working with the Asian community in Aotearoa: producing radio shows on Chinese-language pop music, engaging in the queer and nightlife scene in Tāmaki. Thinking about how to boost the representation of Asian cultures in spaces where we're still fighting for it. He continues to do that work here in London, at ESEACC.
