September First Responder Training Presented by OSU-CHS

We are excited to have you join us as Emily McPherson, MPA, presents "Stigmatizing Language" and Dr. Kelly Dunn, MD, presents "Overview of Stimulants." The hope is by the end of the day you will have a better idea how to take care of and support yourself and your community.

"Stigmatizing Language" is a 1-hour presentation, and "Overview of Stimulants" is a 1.5-hour presentation. Each lecture is worth 1 CLEET, EMS, PRSS, LPC, and/or LMFT continuing education credit. You have the opportunity to receive up to 2 credits if you attend all sessions. Certificates will be provided for those who need them within three business days after the training. You are free to attend as many or as few sessions as you would like. Attendance will be taken during each session so you will only receive credit for the sessions you attend. You only need to register ONCE even if you are planning to attend multiple sessions.

1:00 PM: Stigmatizing Language (Emily McPherson, Project Manager, OSU-CHS Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences)

Stigma and discrimination can lead to people experiencing mental health challenges to not seek help, to self-isolate, and to lose hope that their situation can improve. This course covers how to combat that stigma by offering examples of supportive language and providing tips for interrupting bias when we see it from others.

2:00 PM: Overview of Stimulants (Dr. Kelly Dunn, Vice Chair/Associate Clinical Professor, OSU-CHS Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences)

This 90-minute session provides an overview of the effects of psychostimulants, including neurobiology, epidemiology, withdrawal, and overamping, followed by a discussion of medications used to treat stimulant use disorders and concluded with a review and question-and-answer period.
