We are excited to have you join us as Emily McPherson, MPA, presents "Suicide Prevention" and Dr. Sara Coffey, D.O., presents "Suicide Risk Assessments." The hope is by the end of the day you will have a better idea how to take care of and support yourself and your community.

Each lecture is worth 1 CLEET, EMS, PRSS, LPC, and/or LMFT continuing education credit. You have the opportunity to receive up to 2 credits if you attend all sessions. Certificates will be provided for those who need them within three business days after the training. You are free to attend as many or as few sessions as you would like. Attendance will be taken during each session so you will only receive credit for the sessions you attend. You only need to register ONCE even if you are planning to attend multiple sessions.

10:00 AM: Suicide Prevention (Emily McPherson, Project Manager, OSU-CHS Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences)

Nearly 8,000 Oklahomans died by suicide from 2013-2022, and suicide is the eighth-leading cause of death in the state. Many suicide prevention programs exist, however, and can be implemented in a range of settings, from health care to schools to everyday life. This course covers the scope of the suicide problem, identification of suicide risk, and several prevention strategies and programs.


11:00 AM: Suicide Risk Assessments (Dr. Sara Coffey, Chair, OSU-CHS Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences)

For patients at risk for suicide, a suicide risk assessment can provide information that informs identification, treatment, and management of suicidal ideation. This course covers risk factors and protective factors for suicide, the methodology of administering a suicide risk assessment, and treatment for suicidal ideation.
