Writer, performer, and Aromatica Poetica founder, Dr. M. Leona Godin, spent most of her life going blind, so she’s kind of used to it. But her dad—career military man, world traveler, lover of the good life—did not take well to disability when he ended up in a wheelchair for the last few years of his life. After three sold-out shows at Olfactory Art Keller earlier this year, Godin is delighted to bring her unique brand of anti-ocularcentric performance back with a whole new set of stories about family and debauchery, treasure and transformation. Each story is punctuated with a scented, tactile token, handmade by her to give audience members something to sniff, touch, and take home with them. Blackout shades are provided, because you don’t need your eyes for this!
Image description: A rustic wood table is laid out with a decadent snack: Beefeater and wine, cheeseboard and chocolates, glasses and plates. The centerpiece is a silver bowl containing gold cage tokens stuffed with tiny, juniper-scented alpaca blankets. A crystal ashtray with Russian Tea Room matches is set towards the viewer and a lit candelabra towards the back. Presiding over all is An old photo in a gold frame of Godin and her dad smiling and hamming it up for a birthday photo, he in a black suit and she in a vintage sleeveless turquoise dress with beads at the neck. Behind all is a colorful world map.
