Distilling Memories: A Distillation Workshop and Performance with Amy Anthony

For this 3-hour performance and workshop, you are invited to bring a memento that will be distilled, combined with the other participants’ mementos, to extract its essence for communal catharsis. (Anything can be distilled, but your memento should not be larger than an orange.)

While the still runs and coaxes the scent molecules out of your memento, Amy Anthony will give an overview about distillation and its history and explain concepts like “essence”, “spirits”, “distillate”, and “hydrosol”. Andreas Keller will explain how to extract scent in your kitchen without specialized equipment.

After we shut off the still, you will be given a sample of the communal distilate and can opt to bring your destroyed memento home (if anything is left to bring home). Join us to learn how to let go of objects and memories by turning them into scents.
