Acting for video games
We're happy to announce that this unique acting masterclass is back!
Join renowned improviser, voice actor and coach Alan Marriott and video game performance director Mark Estdale for an acting journey into the depth of performance for games, building stronger and clearer characters.
Games are unique amongst all scripted performance media, as actors can be recorded without the actor ever reading the script in advance. The work of the actor is in being their character living in flow. What enables the actor to live is the container of who they are, and the why and what of intention within the game world. Establishing character and objective is the launch pad for the journey.
Because the actor does not see the script prior to performance, they live the moment, out of their head and in flow. This mirrors the flow states of improv theatre and how we live life, taking each moment as it comes. This liveness is something that can never be captured if the actor has read the script in advance.
If the actor has read the script they know the future and can only perform 'as if' whatever is happening is unknown. 'As if' is 'as if', it can never be truly natural. It is always a simulation. This is unlike all other scripted performances, it's where surprising nuance is found and where refined character work is the icing on the cake.
This series of classes are focused on the craft of the living performance and deepening character precision with confidence. They are part classroom, part exercise and part performing in the production studio under performance conditions. This is a no holds barred performer's workout. Hear-see-do with an emphasis on the doing.
