OmVed Gardens Slow Morning
Sun 4 Aug 2024 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
OmVed Gardens, N6 5JF
Description
An opportunity to explore the gardens, slow down and engage with the work of guest artist Lyson Marchessault.
Drop by the garden between 10am and 13:30pm with the only purpose but to slow down and connect with the surroundings.
Feel free to sit somewhere and read, write, draw, meditate, converse or just be. You can also explore the photography display in the glasshouse, follow our ecologist's advice to engage with the garden, take a self guided poetry tour or help our landscape gardener and guest artist Lyson Marchessault use clay from the site to build a biodegradable stool (between 11 - 1:30PM).
About Lyson Marchessault:
Lyson Marchessault is a French-Canadian and British artist based in London, primarily focusing on natural materials. Her work has an interest in ancient techniques and forms, incorporating folklore and ritual into raw materials and clay that she harvests herself from the landscape. Part of her practice also involves ecology, fermentation and regenerative art.
''By utilizing clay, fibers, and sand from the Omved construction site, I will create bricks and stools for an upcoming exhibition. This project highlights the transformation of waste materials into functional and aesthetic objects, showcasing their potential for reuse and repurposing. The materials, while durable, embody an ephemeral quality, emphasizing the regenerative possibilities of sustainable practices. This art practice is rooted in the principles of circular making, aiming to address climate change by demonstrating innovative ways to give new life to discarded resources. Through this work, I hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the value of waste materials and promote a more sustainable and mindful approach to art and design.''

About OmVed Gardens:
Since 2017, we have been carefully restoring a previously tarmacked land in Highgate Village, north London, to provide a space to explore food, creativity and ecology for health and climate resilience.
We are a community interest company featuring a permaculture garden, a creative zero-waste kitchen and a growing educational, events and exhibition space. Our aims are to realise our deep entwinement with each other and the more-than-human, through thinking around food, gardening and ecological awareness, to improve diversity at all levels (seed, food, species, participation) and to use creativity and nature-led knowledge to help tackle the climate emergency.
