It's the perfect way to unwind, experience the magic of nature by night, and enjoy an evening filled with art, music, and connection.

About the event & hosts:

Plants Can Dance (and Mushrooms Sing) is a new concept from award-winning sound artist and DJ Brian d'Souza aka Auntie Flo. During this unique live performance, we'll discover a new way of listening to the plants at OmVed, using their electrical impulses to create live biodata that trigger notes on a specially built modular synthesizer. This process, known as 'bionsonification', is a novel way of tuning into the natural world using sound, immersing the audience in a living, breathing, acoustic ecology.

Brian currently runs the A State Of Flo label and substack blog, focusing on the biological basis for music, new ecosystems and the creation of novel acoustic ecologies which bridge the gap between the natural world and the electronic music one. As Auntie Flo, he recently released his fourth album 'In My Dreams (I'm A Bird And I'm Free)' which included the hit single 'Green City' - the follow up to the award-winning 'Radio Highlife' released with Gilles Peterson's Brownswood. His nature based music has been featured on the BBC, 6Music, V&A, Discovery Channel, Tate, Glastonbury, National Trust and more.

Brian will be joined with Dr. Helen Anahita Wilson, who will be performing live and discussing the bioelectricity and music with Brian in conversation.

Dr. Helen Anahita Wilson is an Oram award-winning composer, sound artist, pianist and post-doctoral researcher whose work explores the intersections of music, nature, and the body. Described as “captivatingly unconventional” by The Sunday Times and praised for her “master musicianship” by World Music Central, her compositions combine both Western and South Asian classical techniques with experimental sound practices to create transdisciplinary projects and performances.

Wilson's unique plant-derived compositional practice uses a variety of plant biodata from medicinal flora to create music aligning with principles of biophilic design. As the inaugural composer-in-residence at the Chelsea Physic Garden, Wilson continues to pioneer biophilic approaches to composition that situate sound as a medium for embodied research and sensory engagement with the more-than-human world.

About OmVed Gardens:

OmVed Gardens is a garden, exhibition, events, and learning space in North London dedicated to exploring the connections between food, ecology and creativity for health and climate resilience. We are on a mission to inspire ecological awareness and action, and deepen our understanding of interconnectedness with the natural world.

As a registered Community Interest Company, all our activities prioritise social and ecological objectives. Whether collaborating with chefs, creatives, gardeners, or schools, OmVed Gardens is a hub for education, connection, and action. We aim to inspire individuals and communities to reimagine their role in building a healthier, more resilient world.

We work to increase biodiversity - of species, seeds, food systems, and participation, through regenerative gardening, seed saving, habitat creation, and ecological education. Our space serves as a living example of how urban areas can be transformed into thriving ecosystems that support both human and non-human communities.
