Southern African Honey Tasting: Discovering Taste Through Honey

Sat 10 Oct 2026 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM OmVed Gardens, N6 5JF

Join African Honey Sommelier and Experience Designer Mutsa Marau for an immersive exploration of Southern African honey. Through guided tasting, sensory discovery and storytelling, guests will explore how landscape, forage, season and culture shape the character of honey.

What to expect

Guests will be guided through a curated selection of distinctive honeys from Zimbabwe and Southern Africa, exploring their aroma, flavour, texture and individual character. The experience will weave together sensory tasting, stories of place and insights into the landscapes, plants, bees and people behind each honey.

What’s included

A guided tasting of a curated selection of Southern African honeys, tasting materials and sensory guidance throughout the experience.

What participants will learn

Participants will develop a greater understanding of how to taste honey with intention and discover how factors such as landscape, forage and season influence what we experience in the jar. They will also gain an introduction to the extraordinary diversity of Southern African honeys and the ecological and cultural stories they carry.

Who can take part?

No previous knowledge of honey is required. The experience is designed for anyone curious about food, nature, biodiversity, culture and the sensory world around us. This event is suitable for adults and young people aged 16 and over.

This event will take place in The Barn  (indoors)

Mutsa Marau is a certified honey sommelier and curator whose practice explores honey as a lens through which to understand landscape, ecology, culture and place. Originally from Zimbabwe, Mutsa returned from the UK in 2019, where her curiosity about indigenous food systems led her to discover the extraordinary diversity of African honeys.

Drawing on sensory analysis, storytelling, ecological knowledge and cultural context, Mutsa creates carefully curated experiences that invite people to taste with greater curiosity and attention. Each experience is rooted in the belief that honey is one of nature’s most extraordinary storytellers, and that Africa’s honeys have a story the world has not yet heard.
