Workshop: Making Through The Body with Mohini Kaur

Sat 14 Nov 2026 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM OmVed Gardens, N6 5JF

Join Artist of the Month Mohini Kaur for Making Through the Body, a creative workshop exploring the relationship between the body and creativity.

Drawing from The Long Ancestral Body, the framework at the centre of Mohini's artistic practice, the session invites participants to explore the body as a source of sensation, memory, intuition and creative possibility. Through gentle movement, mark-making and experimentation, you’ll be invited to loosen the pressure to make something “good” and discover what emerges when you let the body lead.

What to expect

The session will begin with a series of gentle, guided exercises inviting participants to become more aware of their bodies, senses and surroundings. We will then move into creative exercises that translate these sensations into marks, gestures and forms.

The emphasis is on exploration rather than producing a finished artwork. Participants will be encouraged to work intuitively, experiment and follow their own responses to the exercises.

What's included

  • Guided body-awareness and creative exercises
  • Drawing and mark-making materials
  • A series of individual and playful making exercises
  • Time for reflection and exploration
  • An introduction to ideas from The Long Ancestral Body and how they inform Mohini's artistic practice

What you will learn

Participants will be introduced to ways of using bodily awareness as a starting point for creative expression. The workshop will explore how movement, sensation, memory and intuition can inform the act of making, and offer simple approaches for accessing creativity without relying on conventional ideas of artistic skill.

Who can take part

The workshop is open to adults and young people aged 16 and over. No previous experience of art, drawing or creative practice is required. The session is designed for anyone curious about exploring the relationship between the body and creativity.

This workshop will take place in the Barn.

Mohini Kaur (b.1994, India/UK) is a London-based artist working across painting, installation, sculpture and photography. She makes work that stays with how transcendence is felt and resisted in the body, where sensation becomes a way of understanding inheritance and receiving knowledge.

Kaur works within a framework she calls ‘The Long Ancestral Body’, situating the self within an ecological and ancestral continuum that remains alive in the present. Here the female body works as method, carrying tension and renewal into the same unresolved present.

Kaur holds an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art and a BA in French and Philosophy from King's College London.

OmVed Gardens is a garden, exhibition, events, and learning space in North London dedicated to exploring the connections between food, ecology and creativity for health and climate resilience. We are on a mission to inspire ecological awareness and action, and deepen our understanding of interconnectedness with the natural world.

As a registered Community Interest Company, all our activities prioritise social and ecological objectives. Whether collaborating with chefs, creatives, gardeners, or schools, OmVed Gardens is a hub for education, connection, and action. We aim to inspire individuals and communities to reimagine their role in building a healthier, more resilient world.

We work to increase biodiversity - of species, seeds, food systems, and participation, through regenerative gardening, seed saving, habitat creation, and ecological education. Our space serves as a living example of how urban areas can be transformed into thriving ecosystems that support both human and non-human communities.
