FREE EVENT - St Giles Cathedral Exhibition & 'Sit Still'

Multiple dates and times St Giles Cathedral, EH1 1RE

Join us within St Giles Cathedral for a rare opportunity to view the Cathedral's own Dr Inglis memorabilia, along with a remarkable collection of Scottish Women's Hospital medals.

You will also be invited to 'Sit Still' (as Dr Elsie Inglis (1864 - 1917) was told to do by a War Office representative in WW1;  "Go home and sit still") for 15 minutes beside the famous wall memorial plaque, situated in the Holy Cross Aisle which commemorates the work of Dr Elsie Inglis and the Scottish Women's Hospital nurses and Doctors.

The Holy Cross Aisle is where Dr Inglis' funeral service was held on 29 November 1917, which was attended by royalty and dignatories, before the funeral cortege travelled through Edinburgh where streets filled with crowds of mourning people who paid their last respects as the solemn procession took Dr Inglis to her final resting place in the Dean Cemetery.

FREE EVENT but if you would like to make a donation, this is very welcome. Please donate at https://onecitytrust.com/dr-elsie-inglis-fundraising-campaign/.

All funds raised are towards the Elsie Inglis Statue Fundraising Campaign, headed by Frank Ross, The Rt. Hon. Lord Provost of Edinburgh and the OneCity Trust, including a group of dedicated volunteers and fundraisers.  Further details can be found at https://www.elsieinglis.org/

Our thanks go to everyone involved with this event and particularly to Sheana Stephen and congregation for organising this event and St Giles Cathedral for donating the use of the premises.
