Arcoíris: Opening Reception
Wed Oct 2, 2024 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM PDT
Circus of Books, 8230 Santa Monica Blvd, 90046
Description
Oscar Corona's Arcoíris explores themes of queer melancholy through the symbolism of the rainbow, which has historically served as both an omnipotent object of desire and a metaphorical representation of queer identity. The installation incorporates scenic elements and video works that reinterpret and expand queer subjectivities through embodiment, caricature, textures, and spoken word, offering a contemporary take on queer identity, sexuality, and their evolution.
The ultimate aim of Arcoíris, originally created during Corona's MFA at ArtCenter College of Design, is to update the queer art canon from their unique perspective as a queer, Latinx, non-binary artist, challenging stereotypes traditionally associated with gay, assigned male at birth (AMAB) individuals in the artistic and queer community.
Arcoíris will be on view at Circus of Books from October 1-31, 2024.
The opening reception for this exhibition will take place at Circus of Books on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 7-8:30 p.m.
The exhibition is organized and curated by Oscar Corona as part of Circa: Queer Histories Festival, presented by One Institute.
