NO ESTÁS SOLA: Short Film Screening & Conversation with Natalia Lane

Artist Xelestial Moreno-Luz will lead a screening of No Estás Sola, followed by a conversation with Natalia Lane, the subject of the documentary. Presented in Spanish with English translation.

On January 16, 2022, Mexican sex worker and trans activist Natalia Lane survived an attempted transfeminicide. Three years later, after the Mexican judicial system failed to hold her attacker accountable, Lane organized an action in Mexico City demanding justice on her own terms. No Estás Sola documents this act of resistance, tracing the transformation of grief and rage into collective care, accountability, and catharsis.

Through film and conversation, Moreno-Luz and Lane will reflect on the power of storytelling as a tool for survival, political organizing, and community-held memory. Together, they will consider how marginalized communities create their own forms of justice when institutional systems fail to protect them.

This program is co-presented by One Institute and Saturn's Wish as a part of, Wild Wonderful Sporadic Kin, supported by the California Community Foundation.

El 16 de enero de 2022, Natalia Lane, trabajadora sexual y activista trans mexicana, sobrevivió a un intento de transfeminicidio. Tres años después, tras la falta de respuesta del sistema judicial mexicano para responsabilizar a su agresor, Lane organizó una acción en la Ciudad de México para exigir justicia en sus propios términos. No Estás Sola documenta este acto de resistencia, siguiendo la transformación del dolor y la rabia en cuidado colectivo, responsabilidad y catarsis.

A través del cine y la conversación, Moreno-Luz y Lane reflexionarán sobre el poder de la narración como una herramienta de supervivencia, organización política y memoria comunitaria. Juntas, explorarán cómo las comunidades históricamente marginadas crean sus propias formas de justicia cuando las instituciones no logran protegerlas.
