One Million Women and Girls - Gateshead Debate

This debate is being organised by One Million Women & Girls, a not for profit organisation that campaigns for a North East where women and girls are equal, represented and valued.

Ahead of this year's local authority elections in May, we will be bringing together up to six local councillor candidates from across the political spectrum and inviting them to tell us what practical steps they would take to improve the lives of the one million women and girls living in their area. As well as this event in Gateshead, we are also hosting events in Sunderland, Newcastle, South Tyneside and North Tyneside. They will all be chaired by former BBC politics journalist Jacqui Hodgson.

We want the debate audience to ask the candidates lots of questions. In order to keep the event running on time we are asking you to submit questions in advance and you will be prompted to do this when you book. Those who submit a question will be able to choose whether they’d like to ask it themselves or have someone else do so on their behalf. We will try to fit in as many as we can, but we may not be able to get through them all. 

We will be running the events in accordance with the Jo Cox Civility Pledge and all candidates, volunteer staff and audiences will be reminded of the importance of respectful dialogue throughout. Everyone is welcome.

St Mary's Heritage Centre is located next to the Glasshouse in the town centre.  Venues have been chosen with accessibility in mind, but if you have any questions please get in touch. There is paid parking nearby or Gateshead interchange is a ten minute walk away. This event will be livestreamed and a full recording will be made available.
