Global Reporting Summit 2024:
Climate change and its impact on women and vulnerable groups in Latin America and the Caribbean
“Climate change impacts all people throughout the world, but women—especially the most vulnerable—are often impacted the worst. Women represent half the global population and deserve an equal say in finding solutions to our climate emergency.”
– Patricia Espinosa, Former Executive Secretary, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
The climate crisis is a pressing global emergency. However, its devastating effects disproportionately affect women, girls, and marginalised communities, predominantly in the global south. In the wake of extreme weather events that damage livelihoods and disrupt communities, we witness the disheartening repercussions: girls being withdrawn from schools, mothers and daughters compelled to abandon their homes, and an increase of trafficking and sexual exploitation.
Complex global problems need creative, collaborative approaches to inform the public and to help find solutions. This November, media development charity One World Media and investigative journalism collective POPLab will join forces to deliver a Summit in both London and Mexico City with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. This event will explore the role that journalists, filmmakers, grassroot organisations, university students and policy experts can play in confronting this urgent societal challenge through a combination of panel discussions and workshops.
The event will be livestreamed. Workshops will not be livestreamed but resources from the sessions will be made available after the Summit.
This is an accessible event but if you have any reasonable requirements, please let us know in advance and we'll make every effort to accommodate.
