Botanical Ink Colour Making Workshop with SILT
Botanical Ink Colour Making Workshop with SILT
Start your botanical colour journey using inks extracted from plants. You’ll be shown all the possible sources of colour making and various ways to extract it. See the full range of hues and shades through experimenting with mixing and modifiers. All the inks will have been made at the SILT studio and we will talk through the step by step processes behind how they are created and preserved.
You’ll make a beautiful colour wheel as a reminder of the techniques shown and meet other like minded artists and makers. We'll talk about environmentally sustainable art making in the studio - how making our own ink helps us make direct connections between our practices and the immediate surroundings. Through the process we can also gain greater understanding of how colour responds to light and questions around archiving and the environment.
This workshop is led by artist and co-owner of SILT: Sustainable Image Lab, Trowbridge, Anna Chrystal Stephens. SILT is a studio for ecologically aware image and colour research. "We run in-person workshops for use of our facilities, public events, talks and exhibitions. All elements of our programme relate to environmentally focused art practice. Processes and materials used and made in the space range from analogue photographic images developed with plant based substance, paints, inks and dyes made using ecologically safe ingredients, textiles made with foraged or repurposed materials."
