The Grand Fair - Talks

Get an insight into creativity with our inspirational talks during the Grand Fair! Though these talks are free to attend you'll need an entry ticket to the Grand Fair to get access. Each talk will be roughly 30minutes with a short Q&A afterwards for those specific questions you'd like answered. Choose from these or attend them all:

Susannah Conway - Journaling show & tell - 11.30am. Susannah is a writer, teacher, stationery addict and lifelong journaler as well as the author of several books. In this talk she’ll take you through the evolution of her journaling practice from the innocent scribblings of her 11-year-old self, her angsty teenage years, lofty college ambitions, sudden bereavement in her 30s, sanity saving in her 40s and now a relatively calm life in her 50s! She’ll show you there are no rules in journaling and how, with a few simple habits, you can fashion a journaling practice that fits YOU. All you need is paper and a pen (and maybe a bit of washi tape!)

Athena Cauley-Yu - The Story of Meticulous Ink: How to be Creative Every Day - 2.00pm. Athena, founder of Meticulous Ink and the On Paper Festival, shares her story of how Meticulous Ink began way back in 2010 with 3 credit cards, her life savings and a breathtaking amount of optimism. Hear tips on starting your creative entrepreneurial journey and get an insight into the mind of a multi-tasking creative.

Seb Lester - Designing For The Stars: How I designed a logo for a NASA Space Mission - 3.30pm. Seb shares the unexpected journey of designing a logo for a NASA space mission—how it happened, what he learned, and the challenges along the way. From the first sketches to watching the launch at Vandenberg Space Force Base, this is a behind-the-scenes look at creativity under pressure, working with one of the most iconic organisations on Earth.
