Lee will introduce you to the absorbing craft of sketchbook keeping and the variety of ways in which you can visually record your everyday experiences in a creative way. You will learn techniques he’s developed that are ideal for recording quickly whilst on rainy streets or in busy cafe’s and galleries. You will work on a variety of surfaces and in a range of materials to document your surroundings in both expressive and representational styles.
In this workshop you'll turn a single A3 sheet of paper into a wonderfully simple sketchbook to start you on your journey of visual discovery!
Lee John Phillips is a freelance illustrator and avid sketchbook keeper. His client base is both international and varied, covering branding, clothing, product packaging, how-to manuals, concept art and medical illustration. He also carves spoons ‘semi-professionally’ and teaches the craft internationally.
His love for sketchbook keeping directed him towards his life’s work, The Shed Project. Since 2014 Lee has been visually recording the entire contents of his late grandfather’s tool shed and has drawn almost 9,000 items to date.
His work has been selected for the Sir Kyffin Williams Drawing Prize, the Jerwood Drawing Prize, the John Ruskin Prize and won the Zealous Prize for story telling. His 2013 ‘Drawing a Day’ sketchbook was awarded winner of the professional category of the Welsh Drawing Book Exhibition. The Shed Project has been supported by the Welsh Art’s Council and his paintings have been shortlisted for the Welsh Artist of the Year. He has been guest lecturer at the Royal College of Art London, UWTSD Swansea and Carmarthen School of Art to discuss his project. He has spent 15 years in state education as an art teacher, was assistant principal moderator for WJEC and Eduqas and was subject lead on the PGCE, post graduate teacher training course at Buckinghamshire University.

Is there an age limit for the workshop?
Anyone can attend our workshops, though unfortunately we do not allow children under 12. Those under 16 we do request are accompanied by an adult. Please do get in touch if you'd like to discuss.
What should I bring?
You don't need anything - we'll provide everything you need for this workshop.
What are my transport/parking options getting to you?
We recommend one of the Park and Ride options to spend the day in Bath (Lansdown, Newbridge or Odd Down). Alternatively there is parking in Bath in several locations - the nearest to Walcot Methodist Chapel would be the Podium car park or the Cattlemarket car park. Train services to Bath Spa are very regular and the walk to Walcot Methodist Chapel takes around 25 minutes. What3words: ///cats.cage.monkey
