Word Play: An Experimental Lettering Workshop with FYONAFINN

This intimate and playful lettering workshop is designed for all skill levels and walks of life; to encourage creative play, instil confidence and explore handwriting as a form of self-expression. Rather than focusing on perfect penmanship, attendees will experiment with brush pen techniques and stretch their own handwriting into unique lettering styles through interactive and sensory lettering exercises.

Walk away with your own handlettered stickers, ideas and tools to evolve your own penmanship and explore lettering in your own time.

WORD PLAY is anti-calligraphy; a radical attempt at an antidote to perfectionism. Here, we favour personality over beauty, and we are down to play, be messy, share stories, and feel good about ourselves!

Whilst all essential materials for the workshop are provided, you may want to think about a message, quote, or lyric you’d like to draw (there will be prompts available otherwise), or bring along your personal sketchbook and mark-making tools to collect as many ideas and imprints as you like.

Facilitated by Bristol-based lettering artist, storyteller and writer FYONAFINN, a multidisciplinary creative driven and informed by their activism and endless fascination with the human condition.

Is there an age limit for the workshop?
Anyone can attend our workshops, though unfortunately we do not allow children under 12. Those under 16 we do request are accompanied by an adult. Please do get in touch if you'd like to discuss.

What should I bring?
You don't need anything, though you may want to bring a short quote or message to work with - we'll provide everything else you need for this workshop.

What are my transport/parking options getting to you?
We recommend one of the Park and Ride options to spend the day in Bath (Lansdown, Newbridge or Odd Down). Alternatively there is parking in Bath in several locations - the nearest to Walcot Methodist Chapel would be the Podium car park or the Cattlemarket car park. Train services to Bath Spa are very regular and the walk to Walcot Methodist Chapel takes around 25 minutes. What3words: ///cats.cage.monkey

Cancellation Terms
Please ensure you can attend the workshop before booking, as tickets for the On Paper Festival are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you are ill, shipwrecked, or unable to attend for any other reason, we are unable to swap your date, though you are more than welcome to find a friend that can take your place.
