Fall Hike at FWR Dickson Wilderness Area
Join Ontario Nature for lunch and a fall trail hike at FWR Dickson Wilderness Area in Ayr, Ontario. Many may not be familiar with this beautiful interconnected area of lakes, wetlands, Carolinian forests and fields located on the edge of Waterloo Region where it meets up with Brant County. These areas provide a variety of suitable habitat for migratory and breeding birds, especially waterfowl and marsh birds. The fall colours will provide a vibrant show.
Local naturalists, Janet Ozaruk and Fraser Gibson, from Waterloo Region Nature will lead the group along this figure-eight trail looking for fall migrants, mushrooms, ferns, and asters. The trail is primarily hard-packed dirt or gravel with one section of boardwalk and includes some hilly terrain and steps. We will split into two groups, with one group selecting a shorter, easier walking route for those with accessibility concerns.
Following the hike, we will enjoy a light lunch at Wrigley's Corner in celebration of Waterloo Region Nature’s 90th anniversary. We will send more information about the celebration to everyone who registers for the event in the coming weeks. This event will run rain or shine.
