Ecological Corridors and Environmental Problem Solving

Join Ontario Nature in partnership with the Sudbury Naturalists and the Junction Creek Stewardship Committee for a talk titled Biological Corridors and Environmental Problem Solving, presented by Ontario Nature's Executive Director, Andrés Jiménez Monge. Tickets are free with registration for this event.

Conservation knows what it wants to protect — wetlands, birds, old-growth forests — but rarely agrees on the problem it's solving for. This talk argues that environmental problem solving is a war of logics from everyone participating. Ecological corridors fail when institutions fragment or don't connect: misaligned mandates, funding cycles, and competing worldviews reduce ambition to what's fundable. Real connectivity requires shared meaning across jurisdictions, communities, and knowledge systems. Corridors aren't only for wildlife; they're for us, linking decisions as well as habitat.

Together, we will explore the role of ecological corridors in conservation and practical approaches to local environmental problem-solving. Bring your curiosity and your questions for an engaging evening with fellow nature lovers.

About the Speaker: Andrés is a Costa Rican-Canadian biologist with 15+ years of experience in conservation, philanthropy and environmental innovation. He has led land stewardship at Ducks Unlimited Canada in Ontario, managed a national conservation portfolio at the Weston Family Foundation, and created Ontario’s first Indigenous-led bird guide at Birds Canada. He holds a MES from York University with an emphasis in Business and Sustainability from the Schulich School of Business. Andrés enjoys nature-finding with his kids and is learning Anishinaabe Mowin.
