LCR Data Community #3 Standards, Skills & Collaboration – choose your own session

This event is organised by Open Data Manchester in partnership with the Civic Data Cooperative at the University of Liverpool.

The LCR Data Community is a community of practice launched in 2025 that brings together data professionals from across the city region to share knowledge, tackle common challenges, and develop regional approaches to data governance and collaboration.

Following on from last month’s session, our July gathering will be more hands-on and interactive. You’ll be able to choose your own learning path from three streams, each tackling key themes that have consistenly emerged from our community conversations.

Whether you're wrestling with specific technical challenges, exploring governance frameworks, or seeking to build stronger cross-sector collaborations, this session offers practical knowledge sharing with your regional data peers.

How it works

After a brief introduction to our three streams, you'll choose which session best fits your interests and join the corresponding breakout session. We'll reconvene as a full group at the end to share what we've learnt. You'll be free to move between workshops if your initial choice doesn't feel like the right fit for you.

Workshop Streams

1. Data charter & community standards

Explore practical frameworks for metadata management and community accountability. What information do residents want you tracking about their data? How do we balance technical capabilities with ethical obligations? Hands-on exploration of charter principles that connect daily data practice with broader community needs.

2. PowerBI in practice

Real-world PowerBI problem-solving with peers who've been there. Bring your challenges, share your solutions, learn from others' experiences. From dashboard design to data connections, explore what works (and what doesn't) in our regional context.

3. Cross-organisational collaboration

How do we break down silos and share insights across organisational boundaries? Explore successful collaboration models, tackle shared challenges, and identify opportunities for regional knowledge exchange. Focus on practical approaches to working together effectively.

No preparation required - just bring your curiosity and willingness to share experiences with fellow data practitioners.
