Using data to better understand the environment and climate change
Building on talks from February's Show and Tell, this month's session takes a longer look at how data is being used to help us understand, act on, and mitigate the effects of climate change.
We will be hearing from two speakers working at the frontier of environmental data. The Natural Environment Research Council's Digital Solutions Hub (NERC) is opening up some of the 40 petabytes of environmental data held in its data centres, supporting climate mitigation, environmental forecasting and scenario modelling. We will also be joined by Gary Adler from Carbon Happy World, a carbon auditing and analysis company that uses open environmental data alongside business and property profiles to help organisations meet their carbon commitments and reduce costs.
Important information: This event will take place online via Zoom. We will send out a link to join the session on the morning of the event and 30 minutes before the start time.
Who is the LCR Data Community of Practice?
We are a group of people from across the region's data ecosystem that work in or are interested in working with data. We have quarterly in-person meet-ups around lunchtime with online events in between. Our events are informal, welcoming and free.
