We are pleased to introduce Hack4Tourism Salerno, Map the Unseen Salerno Hackfest, a regional hackathon aimed at transforming tourism in the Salerno area by fairly indexing destinations, to enhance the territory and reduce the overall overcrowding of major attractions.
It is organized by Open Data Playground, under the scientific direction of the International Conference EDBT/ICDT 2024, which will be held in Paestum from March 25 to 28, 2024.
This event encourages participants to develop solutions that ensure a balanced representation of various tourist attractions, contributing to a more equitable distribution of tourism, given the high number of attractions that the Salerno area has to offer. The goal is to provide tourists with a broader range of choices, promoting lesser-known destinations and contributing to more sustainable tourism.
Thanks to Palantir, you will have the opportunity to have a free Suite Foundry, ensuring you the best possible experience in our hackathon! Register now for free to secure your spot on Palantir and gain a significant advantage in the competition.
Students will need to analyze ISTAT data, and other sources, to develop algorithms for a fair indexing of tourist destinations, to improve the tourist experience by avoiding overcrowding in popular areas, and, of course, to promote a positive impact for both tourists and local communities.
"Map the Unseen Salerno Hackfest" is an event designed for university students from all Italian universities and PhD candidates, divided into teams of 4 people. These teams will need to create algorithms capable of integrating historical and current data to map travel trends and patterns to suggest alternative destinations based on personalized criteria.
