Opera Praktikos, NYC’s disability-affirmative opera company, presents Spoon Theory Song Cycle inspired by an essay written by Christine Miserandino that viscerally expresses the experience of being disabled. She explains what it’s like living day-to-day with a disability using spoons as a metaphor!
Spoon Theory touches a resonant chord in the hearts and minds of people with disabilities around the world because it expresses different types of energy, be it physical, psychological or emotional. OPrak’s Spoon Cycle knits spoken word with art song from living composers and librettists, to create a dynamic, impactful work presented at the National Opera Center November 20th at 3pm and November 21st at 6:30pm in a live performance that will also be live-streamed broadcast. Our aim is to educate, entertain, and champion the message of Spoon Theory.
