Cranksgiving: Pedaling to End Hunger

The world's largest food drive on two wheels puts food on tables for the holidays

(Sebastopol, CA) Brought to you by the folks behind Trashlantis, our local active transportation and zero waste festival, the idea is simple: collect food and do it on a bicycle. The rules are minimal: be safe and have fun. The cause is an excellent one, and on November 7th, from 1pm-4pm, cyclists of all ages and abilities will gather to collect food and donations for the Redwood Empire Food Bank.

Cranksgiving started as friendly competition between bike messengers in New York City in 1999, and has since grown into a movement that has swept cycling communities around the world. Nationally, Cranksgiving events generate more than a million meals for families in need each year. This is Sebastopol's first Cranksgiving ride.

In the form of an alleycat race, there is no set route, cyclists will stop at various local grocers to collect items on a manifest, taking any route they choose, then meeting up at the finish line to donate the food, money raised and enjoy some community and more fun including an awards ceremony.

This event is FREE, but you'll need $20-$30 to purchase food. All donations, cash or food collected, will support Redwood Empire Food Bank.

Pedal the streets and trails of Sebastopol as you search for specific ingredients that make up a Thanksgiving dinner. Once you've collected all items and arrived at the finish, this feast will be donated to our community's most in need.
