About the presentations:
Creating a Guided Process for Integrating Psychotherapy
Approaches into Music Therapy Clinical Practice - Melissa Gabel MME,
MT-BC This master's thesis focused on creating a practical
workbook for music therapists to guide them in integrating psychotherapy
into their music therapy practice. The presentation will include
background information on the development of the workbook, a qualitative
study completed to pilot the workbook, and future implications.
“You Don’t Know Everything, and That’s Okay!” Stepping into
the power of vulnerability as a music therapist collaborating with other
professionals. - Mikelia Wallace, MT-BC/L, Neurologic Music Therapist Observationally,
music therapists who work in private practice appear to have barriers
to collaboration with other professionals and therapists who serve their
clients. In this presentation, participants will have the opportunity
to define the barriers and identify strategies that will ultimately
benefit the treatment outcomes of their clients.
Beyond "La Bamba": Songs in Spanish to Increase Efficacy and Build Rapport - Natalia Uribe, MT-BC, NMT Beyond
"La Bamba" is a great introduction to building a well rounded
repertoire in Spanish, with culturally relevant songs that will make
your clients feel comfortable and heard. This short presentation will
also give you the tools you need to find songs in Spanish with accurate
translations and cultural context.
Bridging Modalities: Visual Art Techniques for Music
Therapists - Francesca DeBiaso, Art Therapist and Licensed Professional
Counselor ATR-BC, LCAT, ART-C, LPC This interactive workshop
introduces simple, adaptable art-making techniques that music therapists
can integrate into clinical practice. Through brief experiential
activities, participants will explore how visual art enhances emotional
expression, regulation, and engagement. Attendees will leave with
practical, multimodal tools to enrich sessions across diverse client
populations while staying within scope.
