This booking is for an 4 week Pilot starting 4th June for 4 weeks.

Farm School is a new initiative of OrganicLea’s Young People's Team. Our remit is to help raise the next generation of food growers in connection and care for the Earth and all its inhabitants.

Sessions are run on our beautiful and abundant 12 acre food growing site, Hawkwood Plant Nursery.

We are offering a four session pilot running every Thursday this June from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm. Session will be educational and run on Forest School Principle by two Forest School leaders, one of whom is trained in horticulture and orcharding.

A typical day includes:

A community time in circle, learning module and farm task, free play in a forest school setting, vegan community lunch (included), consolidation of learning through games, activities and craft, finishing with nature journaling.

***Grown ups are required to stay on site at all times, there will be a tea and coffee station, community lunch and wifi as needed***

This session is open to children ages 5-8 and their grown-ups (one younger sibling can be facilitated per family and will need to be in the care of their grown ups at all times).

In this pilot we will touch on the following subjects:

  • Magic Soil – exploring how sand, clay, and tiny living things help plants and veg to grow
  • Making Plant Food – how food scraps, cardboard and garden waste can be turned into “superfood” for your fruit and veg plants
  • Farming Tools & Skills – chose the right tools for the job and learn how to safely dig, plant, and care for your vegetables
  • Where do plants like to live? learn how much space/light/water they need, and how to spot helpful bugs they need to stay healthy
  • Growing food – propagation through seed sowing, cuttings and grafting
  • Nature’s food growing calendar - what to plant in spring, summer, autumn, and winter
  • Gardening for the Earth - learn how growing your own food organically can help the planet and why it’s important to care for nature and all its inhabitants
  • Climate change, weather resilience, and horticulture in a post season world

We are committed to keeping sessions accessible for all families. We offer a number of reduced cost places for families on a low income. Also feel free to get in touch if it is difficult for you to pay for all 4 sessions in one go.
