A Day With Herbs- Beginners Course
Spend a gentle, curiosity‑led day getting to know some of the medicinal plants growing around us. This beginner‑friendly day invites you to slow down and use your senses to connect and learn about some of the herbs here at Hawkwood.
This course is aimed at people with very little or no prior experience with medicinal herbs.
Time: 11am–4.30pm (includes a one‑hour lunch break). Please bring your own lunch. Teas and water will be provided
We will cover:
- Sensory Herb Exploration — Using our senses to meet new plants
- Basic Plant Identification — Exploring a few common garden and wild plants and learning some of their medicinal uses.
- Guided Herb Walk — Meet some of the plants growing around the site and discussion around safe and ethical foraging
- Mystery Tea Tasting — Meeting a new herb and connecting through senses
- Everyday Herbs — Learn simple ways connect and use herbs daily and take the next steps on your plant journey
This course is free and funded by 'Waltham Wild'. We encourage these places to be taken by those underrepresented in horticulture.
There are limited spaces so if you are unable to make it please get in touch ASAP so someone else can attend!
The day will be facilitated by Elise Yarde, herbalist in training and part of the Community Learning and Inclusion team here at OrganicLea. She is also a community food grower and believes in the power of plants and community.
