About the Artist: Jacob O’Donnell is simultaneously a veteran of the Lexington music scene and one of its most exciting emerging artists. He cut his teeth playing in the band of Central KY royalty like Tee Dee Young, Lee Carroll, and Joslyn Hampton. In recent years, he has come into his own as a bandleader and boundary pusher. His combination of electronic processing of saxophone and looping has allowed an exploration into new sonic territory. The musical mélange is spacy and ethereal while maintaining a definitive sense of melodicism, groove, and a healthy dose of jazz improvisation.
About the Space: Sunday's show will be in the Grand Hall at the Manchester Hotel. The Grand Hall is a 7,500 sqft. event space, and we're so excited for the immersive experience it will let us create: a show in the semi-round, with the audience close to and surrounding Jacob. The room will be fully dark, lit only at the center. Expect an intimate, sonically intense night. Origins will have earplugs available for anyone who needs them. The Manchester will be serving a full bar during the show.
Who will be into this?
If you attended the Nate Smith show during Equinox Jazz Festival, you will love this. Josh Johnson, the saxophonist in that quartet, is one of Jacob’s top influences. If you like innovative jazz that relies on texture and interesting timbres, you will enjoy this show. Lastly, this one is for the artistic adventurers who are perpetually seeking new and unique experiences.
