Do the Right Thing (1989) – Rooted in Rhythm Film Season
Part of Rooted in Rhythm, our autumn community cinema season, Do the Right Thing opens the series with a vibrant, provocative look at race, identity, and social justice. Spike Lee’s landmark film captures the rhythm, heat, and tensions of a single Brooklyn neighbourhood, asking urgent questions about community and equality that still resonate today.
This screening will include a short introduction linking the film to the creative and cultural resistance that gave rise to the Blues and jazz dance. Audiences are invited to stay afterwards for an informal discussion exploring what “doing the right thing” means in our own communities today.
