The Hidden Dance Hall: A Belfast Speakeasy Session
Step into Our Speakeasy for an evening of live music, social dancing, storytelling and shared community as part of the Fleadh Cheoil Fringe Festival.
Inspired by Belfast's rich dance hall heritage, this unique event explores the cultural roots and lasting influence of the Blues โ a musical tradition that emerged from African American communities in the Southern United States and went on to shape many of the music and dance styles we know today, including Jazz, Swing, Rhythm & Blues, Rock & Roll, Soul, Funk and Hip Hop.
Through stories, music, movement and participation, you'll discover how the Blues became one of the most influential cultural traditions of the last century. The evening will include an interactive introduction to the Blues, a beginner-friendly dance taster, a dance showcase, social dancing and a live acoustic performance by members of the Lee Hedley Blues Band.
No previous dance experience is needed. Whether you come to listen, learn, dance, or simply soak up the atmosphere, you'll find a warm welcome.
Presented by Our Social Space as part of Fleadh Cheoil Fringe Festival 2026.
