Contextual Safeguarding - Young People and AI

 AI is now part of young people's daily lives as a study tool, a source of advice and, increasingly, a companion. This online session from AI Youth explores the social and emotional impacts of AI on young people, covering emotional reliance and companion bots, system bias, and AI-generated mis- and disinformation. Grounded in current research, it gives staff a clear picture of how young people are using these tools, the risks to be alert to, and where to find trusted guidance and resources.

This training online training will be delivered by Nicki Watts. Nicki is an Applied Theatre Practitioner and cultural leader with 20 years' experience working with underrepresented young people in educational and community settings. She is Director of AI Youth, an initiative supporting young people, and the adults they trust, to navigate the social and emotional impacts of AI, and Co-Director of community arts organisation Project WordPlay CIC. Her safeguarding experience and direct work with young people exploring the topic ground AI awareness in current research and in young people's own voices.
