Outdoor Arts Climate Gathering & Performance of The Weight of Water

Join the conversation on Climate Action in Outdoor Arts

FESTIVAL.ORG, OutdoorArtsUK and Arts Council England invite you to an industry gathering focused on climate action in the Outdoor Arts sector alongside a performance of The Weight of Water by Panama Pictures. Through roundtable discussions and presentations, this event brings together artists, producers, programmers, and climate advocates to explore sustainable practices, new initiatives and the power of outdoor performance in battling climate change.

We’ll discuss embedding sustainability in production and touring, the role of artists in climate action and the impact climate-inspired work has on audience behaviour. Speakers include:

• Kevin Wratten, Global Streets, on embedding sustainable approaches in The Weight of Water

• David Doust, Outdoor Arts UK, on Eco’operation - a new online platform and international network which will drastically reduce carbon emissions and programming costs for festivals around the world.

• Rob Eagle, Centre for Cultural Value, on climate related performance and audience behaviour change

• Johann Meux, Attitude is Everything, on – No Climate Action Without Us, a toolkit to create green and accessible events

Featuring a Performance of The Weight of Water

After the gathering, attendees are invited to a performance of The Weight of Water by Panama Pictures at 2.30pm. Birchmere Lake.

Described as a “modern parable of global warming, which merges dance and circus on water to nail-biting effect” this production is presented by Greenwich+Docklands International Festival and part of the Global Streets touring initiative.

Performance Location: Birchmere Lake, Epstein Road, Thamesmead, SE28 8DQ.
The performance is a 15 minute walk (0.6 miles) from The Moorings Social Club (the Climate Gathering venue).
