Bal with Turbobal
Sat 15 Jun 2024 7:30 PM - 11:00 PM BST
Kennington Village Centre, OX1 5PG
Description
Turbobal is steeped in the music of Poitou-Charentes in south west France. Cécile Delrue-Birot is a great hurdy gurdy player, fiddler and singer. Lucas Thébaut is much in demand as a diatonic accordion player: in Duo Thébaut with his father Robert (Ciac Boum) and the group Petit Piment, as well as as a teacher. Their sound is packed with enough energy to send you stratospheric. Last year they played at some of the great French and Belgian festivals such as Gennetines, Marcinnes and Boombal, and we are utterly delighted that they will be joining us at Oxfolk on their first UK tour! Want to hear them? Go to https://lucasthebaut.jimdofree.com/accueil/turbobal/
This is a French-style bal, without a caller. Instead, from 8pm we will have a bal basics workshop with Ravi Sawney, and Turbobal will play from 9 until 11.
There is a licensed bar with ale, cider, wine and soft drinks.
