Oxfolk Ceilidh with Lebedek and caller Barry Goodman
Sat 9 Nov 2024 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM GMT
Kennington Village Centre, OX1 5PG
Description
Lebedek has always been a real hit when they play Oxfolk. The members of the band have Ukrainian, Macedonian, Polish, Jewish and English roots, plus experience in everything from musical theatre to playing for morris. They draw on this diverse heritage to create their unique blend of music. The line-up features Katrina Warcaba on piano accordion, Lydia Ristova Whittaker and Shelley van Loen on violins and Simon Loake on bouzouki and calling. ‘Lebedek’ is a Yiddish word meaning ‘lively and vivacious’… and we know you’ll love them.
Joining them to call the dances is the wonderful Barry Goodman - always genial and precise, and with a great selection of dances.
Non-gendered calls will be used.
Our friends Cry Havoc will be entertaining us at half time with morris dances from the Cotswolds.
Doors 7.30pm, dancing from 8 until 11pm.
There is a licensed bar with ale, cider, wine and soft drinks.
