Doors 7.30pm, contra basics lesson at 7.45pm, dancing until 11pm.
Contrary Faeries arise from Sheffield to delight, entrance, and enthral! Sol Loreto-Miller on piano and Joshua Webster on fiddle will whisk you away to a world where you can dance forever and forget your troubles, your home, and the life you lived before.
Charlie Turner has been dancing and teaching for as long as she can remember, but a move to San Francisco transformed her contra dancing and started her calling. Now based in Oxford, UK, she brings the best of the West Coast to contra crowds, with clear, friendly teaching and satisfying dance selections. She has helped to found two gender-free contra dances (so far): Contrabridge (Cambridge, UK) and Oxford Contra. She emphasises connection, fun, flow and inclusivity in dance. Calling will be non gendered, and either positional (no role terms) or with role terms such as Larks and Robins.
There is no licensed bar at this event, so please feel free to bring your own drinks. Tea, coffee and squash will be available to buy, and water is freely available. We don’t use disposable glasses, so feel free to bring your own, or purchase an Oxfolk one at the event.
