Barton Housing Workshop
Barton Housing Workshop
Need help?
This workshop will be about what kind of new housing we need in Barton, and how the community itself can take the lead in creating it.
It’s open to everyone. Please come along and share your views – no experience of housing development necessary!
We'll focus on practical ways of getting “community-led” housing projects off the ground by:
- Exploring Barton’s housing needs: who do we need more housing for, where should it be, how much should it cost, and what should it be like?
- Learning about the different ways in which communities themselves can take control of housing development in their local areas, discussing the various opportunities available for organisation and participation.
- Identifying the steps involved in getting a community-led housing project off the ground, from finding land and/or buildings to financing and building housing.
- Looking at inspiring models from elsewhere in the country, discovering how local community groups have taken control of housing in their own neighbourhoods – and how they have done so in ways that are sustainable.
- (If time): Identifying specific opportunities in the local area, working together to build a map of potential buildings and sites in Barton.
This workshop is being run by Oxfordshire Community Land Trust together with Transition by Design and Jabu Nala-Hartley.
