Event Details:
Explore the rich history of The Ridgeway with our guided walk led by the Historic Ridgeway Project Manager, Dan Bashford, and Hayley Gray, the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This circular walk will delve into the archaeological earthworks and below-ground archaeology within and around this section of The Ridgeway.
Highlights:
- Learn about the changing landscape and land use over time.
- Discover stories from the Neolithic period to the present day.
- Understand the significance of The Ridgeway through various historic periods.
Walk Information:
- Distance & Duration: 4 miles (6.4 km) – 3 hours
- Difficulty: Moderate (more challenging, for keen/active walkers)
- Accessibility: Suitable for older children (12+). Not suitable for wheelchairs or prams/pushchairs.
- Dogs: Dogs on leads welcome.
- Refreshments: Bring your own snacks and drinks. No places to purchase refreshments on the route.
- Toilets: No toilets available on the route.

- How to Book: Advance online booking required. List all walkers’ names and contact details. You will receive an email confirmation of your booking.
- Contact: If you have any problems on the day of the walk, please contact the walk leader directly. Their details will be provided in the reminder email.
Additional Information:
- Parking: Free parking at Scutchamer Knob/Cuckhamsley Hill car park. Parking is limited, please share cars whenever possible.
- Health & Safety: Inform the walk leader of any medical conditions or impairments relevant to the walk. Wear suitable clothing and footwear for the weather conditions. Consider applying sun cream and insect repellent. Long trousers are recommended due to the risk from ticks and tall vegetation.
Note: All children under 16 and vulnerable adults must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Children aged 16-17 attending alone must complete a consent form and bring it with them.
