Description
From Ground Zero Screening Series
Recently shortlisted for this year’s Academy Awards in the Best International Feature category, From Ground Zero is a ground-breaking collection of 22 short films crafted by Palestinian filmmakers living through the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Each short film, spanning 3 to 6 minutes, explores the struggles and hopes of life under siege through various genres, including fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental cinema.
Launched by acclaimed Palestinian filmmaker Rashid Masharawi, From Ground Zero offers an intimate glimpse into the lives of Gazans amid Israel's bombings and brutal blockade. The film is an opportunity to focus on “the normal stories” of survival and perseverance, a “cinema for humanity”. This project is a testament to the power of art in times of conflict. “Despite all that happened, we were trying to search for hope”, says Masharawi, who was born in Gaza and has lost many relatives to the war.
