London Book Launch: No Way but Forward by Brian K. Barber

This deeply moving narrative follows three men—Hammam, Hussam, and Khalil—as they build families, pursue education, and fight for justice in the face of unimaginable challenges. Barber, a psychologist and researcher, has developed genuine relationships with these families since 1995, allowing him to tell their stories with rare depth and authenticity.

In the final chapters, Barber shares firsthand accounts from the families as they endure the aftermath of October 7. Through their voices, readers witness the heartbreak, resilience, and unwavering hope of those living through war while holding on to love and dignity.

Brian K. Barber, PhD, is Professor Emeritus at the University of Tennessee and currently resides in Washington, DC. His work explores how context—from parenting to political systems—shapes individual and societal development. He is also the editor of Intrusive Parenting: How Psychological Control Affects Children and Adolescents (2002, American Psychological Association) and Adolescents and War: How Youth Deal with Political Conflict (2008, Oxford University Press).
