Mohammad Sabaaneh: Exhibition & Book Talk

Join us for a special evening with acclaimed Palestinian artist and cartoonist Mohammad Sabaaneh, featuring both a book talk and an exhibition of his powerful work.

Sabaaneh will present his graphic novel Power Born of Dreams: My Story Is Palestine—a searing, poetic narrative shaped by his own experience as a political prisoner. Through stark black-and-white linocut prints, the book captures the everyday realities of Palestinians living under occupation: stories of separation, displacement, resilience, and hope. At its heart is a symbolic dialogue between a prisoner and a bird who carries news from the outside, a device through which Sabaaneh humanizes life in Palestine and offers readers both a testimony of suffering and a celebration of resistance.

The evening will also showcase an exhibition of Sabaaneh’s striking visual art, adding another dimension to his storytelling. His images, marked by fragmentation and endurance, speak to the unyielding will to dream beyond walls.

This event will further celebrate the launch of the 2025 edition of World War 3 Illustrated: The Right to Live in Peace. Founded in 1979 by Seth Tobocman and Peter Kuper, this landmark comics anthology has long united artists in the global struggle for justice. The new issue honors Chilean singer Víctor Jara and his anthem El Derecho de Vivir en Paz, presenting powerful contributions from international artists confronting imperialism, the rise of fascism, and ongoing wars—from Palestine to Puerto Rico, Sudan, Congo, Haiti, and beyond.

• Mohammad Sabaaneh — Palestinian artist, cartoonist, and author of Power Born of Dreams. Mohammad Sabaaneh is a Palestinian cartoonist and former political prisoner whose work has been widely recognized for its bold visual storytelling. His cartoons have appeared in Middle East Monitor and Al-Quds Al-Arabi, and he currently serves as the principal political cartoonist for the Palestinian Authority’s daily newspaper, Al-Hayat al-Jadida. Sabaaneh is the Middle East representative of the Cartoonists Rights Network International and teaches art at the Arab American University of Palestine. His work has been featured in international art fairs and exhibitions across the globe. He is the author of White and Black and, most recently, completed his master’s degree at the University for the Creative Arts in London, UK, as a Chevening Scholar. Sabaaneh lives in Ramallah, in the West Bank.

• R.M. Sánchez-Camus
  R.M. Sánchez-Camus is a London-based performance and visual artist whose practice moves between social practice, installation, psychogeography, and live art. Born in New York City to parents who emigrated from Chile, his experiences living in Pinochet’s dictatorship, watching 911 unfold live from a rooftop, and post-Brexit Britain have shaped his focus in democratising culture through collaborative works of art. He builds poetic frameworks where lived experience and public space co-author the work—whether through intimate audio pieces, large-scale murals, or durational actions. Projects span from “Echoes of The Lived,” an immersive sound installation interrogating architectures of confinement, to the “Rachel’s Tomb,” a mural conceived and created with Salahuddin Abulaban in Bethlehem on the apartheid wall annexing the holy site. Earlier international productions include “Triangulated City” in Beirut and “Journey to the Light” in New York, staging the city itself as a dramaturgical partner.
