A unique opportunity to see this multi award winning film and hear from Ronnie Kasrils, anti-apartheid freedom fighter and a frontline veteran of anti-racist, anti-imperialist struggles across six decades, plus director Gordon Main.

In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, at the height of apartheid, an international group of students and workers living in London answered Oliver Tambo’s secret call for undercover direct actionists.

This film tells the story of the young men and women who risked it all to bring Oliver Tambo’s message of hope to his embattled people inside brutal apartheid South Africa.

Not everyone made it home.

At this special screening we are delighted to welcome Ronnie Kasrils, the man who originally recruited the young women and men who undertook these high-risk, direct-action missions, for a post screening conversation.

With far-right ideologies and racism back on the rise everywhere, from the illegal war against Iran, the genocide in Gaza and the ethnic cleansing of the West Bank to ICE on the streets of the US, from the UK’s attempts to suppress the right to jury trial and the use of terrorist legislation to clamp down on direct action and political dissent, from Sudan to the Congo and beyond, the message of international solidarity at the heart of Comrade Tambo’s London Recruits could not be more timely. It could not be more urgent.

Ronnie also served on the Russel Tribunal on Palestine, and will speak to South Africa’s case at the ICJ calling out the genocide in Gaza.
