Tahriri Embroidery Workshop – Palestinian Embroidery Technique (2 Day Course)

Learn the art of Tahriri embroidery, the second most common form of Palestinian embroidery, in this two-part weekend workshop.

Tahriri is a distinctive couching technique developed in the Bethlehem area. It differs from the predominantly cross-stitch embroidery found elsewhere in Palestine and is known for its elegant, curvilinear patterns.

Dates:  Sunday 18th & 25th October
Time: 11:00am – 1:30pm (both days)
Duration: 2.5 hours per session (5 hours total)

This workshop covers the foundational techniques of Tahriri embroidery – not a beginner's class (some embroidery experience required), but not an advanced deep dive either. Across the two sessions, you'll learn the steps to create basic Palestinian motifs and choose from two designs to stitch onto a toiletry bag. You'll also have the freedom to choose your own colours.

Once you've learned this skill, you can apply Tahriri embroidery to clothing, bags, or anywhere else you choose to stitch.

All materials are included in the ticket price, and you'll keep your finished toiletry bag at the end of the workshop.

Please note: This is an intermediate embroidery course, and as such, people with no embroidery or sewing experience will be accepted – all attendees are expected to have some embroidery experience. The workshop will NOT be covering basics such as:

• Threading needles
  
• Basic stitching techniques

You should be comfortable handling a needle and thread, understanding thread tension, and knowing how to undo your stitches if you make a mistake.
