De medische onderwijsomgeving in Gaza staat sinds de gebeurtenissen van 7 oktober vrijwel stil, wat zowel de gezondheidszorg als het onderwijs ernstig heeft getroffen. Dit samenzijn biedt niet alleen een kans om deze acute uitdagingen aan te pakken, maar ook om de basis te leggen voor een duurzame wederopbouw. Door een alliantie tussen medische universiteiten te vormen, kunnen we het aantal gekwalificeerde medische professionals aanzienlijk vergroten, zodat Gaza beter voorbereid is op de dringende en toekomstige gezondheidsbehoeften. Jullie aanwezigheid op ons evenement op 7 maart is een cadeau van ons, en jullie donaties kunnen een cruciale rol spelen in het redden van levens en het vormgeven van de toekomst van de gezondheidszorg in de regio.

Over Utrecht Medics for Gaza

Onze collega’s in Palestina—zowel in Gaza, de Westelijke Jordaanoever als Libanon—zetten hun essentiële werk voort onder de meest schrijnende omstandigheden. Met beperkte middelen, uitputtende diensten en voortdurend gevaar blijven zij zorg verlenen en hun eed trouw blijven. Sinds 7 oktober zijn in Gaza meer dan 800 zorgverleners gedood en is kritieke infrastructuur, waaronder ziekenhuizen en medische faculteiten, vernietigd.

Bij Utrecht Medics for Gaza zetten we ons in voor een staakt-het-vuren, het beëindigen van de bezetting en respect voor mensenrechten voor Palestijnen. Naast onze pleitbezorging ondersteunen we studenten in Gaza om hun medische opleiding voort te zetten. Na het succes van het MEDGala (waarmee we meer dan €7.500,- hebben opgehaald), organiseren we met trots dit vervolg. De donaties van Poetry for Palestine gaan direct naar PalMed Academy.

Over Palestine Café Utrecht

Palestine Café is een ontmoetingsplek voor activisten en sympathisanten van de Palestijnse zaak in Utrecht. Hier komen mensen samen om te praten, acties te organiseren en solidariteit te tonen. Elke bijeenkomst heeft een wisselende opzet, met verschillende groepen die discussies leiden en programma’s organiseren rondom Palestijnse kunst en cultuur. Palestine Café Utrecht biedt een kans om je netwerk van medestanders uit te breiden. Of je nu nieuw bent of al jaren actief, je bent meer dan welkom!

This gathering presents a unique opportunity not only to address these immediate challenges but to lay the groundwork for a sustainable recovery. By potentially forming an alliance among medical universities, we can significantly increase the number of qualified medical professionals ready to meet Gaza's urgent and future health needs. About Utrecht Medics for Gaza:
Our colleagues in Palestine—in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon—continue their vital work under harrowing conditions. With scarce resources, extended shifts, and constant danger, they persevere to provide healthcare and honor their oaths. Since October 7th, over 800 healthcare workers have been killed in Gaza, and critical infrastructure like hospitals and medical faculties have been destroyed.

At Utrecht Medics for Gaza, we advocate for a ceasefire, an end to the occupation, and respect for human rights for Palestinians. Beyond advocacy, we support students in Gaza to continue their education. After the success of the MEDGala (which raised over €7.500,-), we’re excited to organize this follow-up event.The donations to Poetry for Palestine will go directly to Palmed Academy.

About Palestine Café Utrecht
Palestine Café is a meeting space for Palestine solidarity activists in Utrecht. It is a space for people to meet, discuss and take actions for further Palestine solidarity in Utrecht. The set up varies each week, with different people and groups organising discussions, as well as the hosting of Palestinian arts and culture programs.
