The Panacea Society: reflections on writing the community's history

Professor Shaw 'discovered' the Panacea Society community and its archive in 2001. There followed a decade-long project working in the archives, cataloguing as she went along. Now, nearly 25 years after her first interaction with the Society, Jane reflects on the work she undertook and her relationship with the surviving Members in the early 2000s.

Jane Shaw is Professor of the History of Religion at the University of Oxford. She is the author of several books, including Octavia, Daughter of God: The Story of a Female Messiah and her Followers (Jonathan Cape 2011). She reviews books for the Financial Times and is on the editorial board of Prospect magazine.

The talk will be held in the 'Bishops' Meeting room' in our 'Castleside' building, and will start at 2.30pm.
